WW2 WAR RATION BOOKS FOR A COMPLETE FAMILY with leather bound holder
War ration books worked by providing citizens with booklets containing coupons or stamps for purchasing restricted goods, like food, fuel, and clothing, in addition to the money for the item. To buy a rationed product, a customer had to provide the appropriate stamp or coupon along with the monetary cost. Ration stamps were only valid for specific periods to prevent hoarding and were adjusted over time to manage shifting supply and demand.
War Ration Book 3 was issued in July and August 1943. Four of the eight pages were for a proposed apparel rationing program. The Office of Price Administration (OPA) did not want to disclose the program ahead of time so the stamps had blind devices to identify them--tanks, planes, ships and guns.
Book four series ration books were issued in late 1943. Books in this series contained several different types of stamps, each valid for purchase of a particular item .
