The RSF SD140 is a programmable digital drum machine made in limited numbers 1987-1988 by RSF-Aria of France, featuring MIDI and user sampling. It has fourteen instrument sounds on board and any of these can be replaced by a user sample of a similar sample length. The Bass Drum and Toms also have programmable filters, while the Hi -Hat has programmable decay.Functions are arranged in four `pages' to cover Programming, Inputs & Outputs, MIDI interfacing, and the Sampling facilities. Each sound has a separate output (although some are shared), and there are two main displays, a 2-digit red 7-segment LED and a LCD window, along with membrane-type keys for accessing the majority of the functions and settings. Patterns and songs can be programmed in real-time by entering instrument sounds using the front panel’s large trigger buttons, with variable auto-correction (quantisation), swing, accent, and other options available. This publication is a complete (English Language) user manual for owners of the SD140 model (enhanced with colour pictures of the control keys and functions), along with bonus material including some internal photographs of the unit and a short history of the company RSF Synthetiseurs, which went out of business in 1988.
